Susan Frye and her husband Mike Kienzle bought the five acre Frye homestead from her parents Bernard and Helen Frye in 1994. At that time the farm contained about one hundred trees and Susan has since doubled the inventory, with a focus on fruit and nut bearing species as well as natives. Bernard was also an avid tree planter, having established the black walnut grove in the early 1960s. The farm groves include varieties of magnolia, walnut, yew, cottonwood, spruce, viburnum, pine, chokecherry, ash, hickory, pecan, cypress, lilac, catalpa, dogwood, fir, cherry, willow, peach, apple, maple, oak, linden, hawthorne, birch, gingko, and spruce.
